Into the Quiet, an Interactive Site-Specific Textile Environment
Into the Quiet was created in 2026, during my residency at Bailey Contemporary Arts.
The title reflects the peaceful moments I experienced in the studio—a place of stillness where ideas slowly took shape. The work consists of suspended hand-crafted, lightweight mini-sculptures made out of scorched fabrics on hoops.
At first glance, the suspended textiles, delicate hoops, and flame-transformed forms invite viewers into a calm, contemplative space. Beneath this quiet surface, however, lies another layer of meaning. As I scorch and transform synthetic fabrics, I find myself reflecting on the growing presence of plastic in our daily lives and the natural world.
The synthetic fabrics I use are forms of plastic—the very material that has become one of the greatest environmental challenges of our time. This paradox lies at the heart of my practice.
Into the Quiet invites reflection. It encourages us to consider our relationship with the materials we create, consume, and leave behind.
