In 2007, I moved beyond the loom, wanting to create something totally new for me. It was during this period of exploration that I first used matchsticks to scorch the edges of synthetic fabric—ultimately discovering a technique that came naturally to me and became an essential part of who I am.
For me, scorching is a metaphor for the human condition. Just as the flame shapes and alters the fabric, we are shaped by life's challenges, which bring forth our true beauty.

This piece is hand-crafted from hundreds of scorched silk organza fabric; the piece was meticulously pinned into a collective circle that rises about 6 inches off the surface
