On the Other Side 2011
On the Other Side is a site-specific exploration of raw geometry, organic texture, and light. This body of work was exhibited at FAT Village, curated by Leah Brown & Peter Symons.
The installation's power lies in its self-lit feature, engineered specifically to create a night experience. The 6×6-foot panels are assembled directly on the floor to form a free-standing triangular sculpture.
Georgeta pulled the artwork away from traditional vertical walls and anchored it to the ground as a three-dimensional form. This way, the viewers can move around its perimeter, changing their relationship with the surrounding architectural space.
The light filters outward through meticulously layered synthetic fabrics, emphasizing the organic, erratic patterns left by Georgeta’s signature scorching technique.
The fire-manipulated edges, melted textures, and varied opacity of the fabric layers create a complex web of highlights and deep shadows that evoke otherworldly textures—the kind that can only be visible on the other side, in our minds.
